Do you have post-concussion syndrome?

You're involved in a motorcycle accident when a driver turns left in front of you. You slam into the front panel of the car, sail off your bike and land in the road.

You're lucky. You had your helmet on. It strikes the pavement first. You wind up with a broken wrist and a concussion, but you are alive.

You expect your concussion to heal in a week or two. After all, you watch plenty of NFL games. Players are constantly getting concussions and then coming back a week or two later. You do not think it is a big deal.

However, some of your symptoms just seem to linger. You have dizzy spells weeks after the accident. You get headaches in a way you never experienced them before. You have trouble sleeping. Every now and then, your vision gets blurry, especially when you are reading or watching TV.

These are all potential symptoms of post-concussion symptom. The duration varies from one person to the next. For some people, it is just days or weeks. Others have these lingering symptoms for months. Still others experience them for years.

Your brain may be healing properly, but that does not mean you're going to be fine in two weeks. Brain injuries are very complex and different people react to them differently.

These lasting symptoms may mean that you cannot return to work, costing you your wages. They may mean that you need medical treatment and medications for years. It is very important that you understand all of the potential rights you have to financial compensation.
