Driver playing Pokemon Go Crashes into police vehicle

Airbags, seat belts, rear view cameras and other amazing pieces of technology save lives every day and every year companies come out with new technologies to improve car safety. But, not every new technology improves safety. In the early 2000's it was cell phones, a few years after that it was texting, and now it is people playing Pokemon Go. A driver was not paying attention to the road because he was playing Pokemon Go on his phone which led to him crashing into a police vehicle.

Pokemon Go is a smartphone game that requires players to travel around to spot creatures that they can see on their phones. The games use the phone's camera to create an augmented reality on the phone that displays Pokemon (the creatures), which can rudimentarily interact with the real world, through the camera.

The game requires players to keep their eyes glued to their phone. Therefore, it certainly isn't a good idea to drive while playing. This particular player crashed into a police vehicle while the police officer was standing next to the patrol car and the entire scene was captured on the police officer's body camera.

Although this event transpired in Maryland, distracted driving is a nationwide problem. Until a radical solution emerges that changes the bad habits of some drivers there will always be accidents. As such, they are inevitable therefore it is critical that you are prepared to deal with one if it happens to you. If you were injured in a car accident because the driver was not paying attention, then you may want to speak to an attorney. You might have an actionable claim for damages. An attorney can help you get compensation for your injuries.
