Distracted drivers are more dangerous than drunk drivers

If the thought of drivers driving aimlessly checking their social media on their phone while driving their vehicle on the road brings chills down your spine, then you are not alone.

According to U.S Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention (CDCP). Every year in the United States over 8 people are killed and 1,161 are injured due to distracted driving. Distracted driving is paying attention to another activity, which takes your focus away from the road.

The most concerning type of distracted driving is texting while driving. This has become one of the most unfortunate and tragic ways many high school and college students have died.

Texting while driving involves three types of distractions cognitive, visual, and manual. An example of cognitive distractions is being inattentive while operating your motor vehicle on the road. The driver may be lost in their thoughts. It may be possible that in that contemplating stage of driving they failed to see the approaching bus or a car. This may lead to an accident that may have been avoidable if they were paying attention.

For instance, a visual distraction is daydreaming and losing sight of driving by focusing on anything other than the road. Another example is adjusting your seat belt, changing the songs on the CD and DVD player, and focusing on your GPS device to navigate you to your next destination. These distractions may cause an accident that may alter the lives of the individual driving the car.

Lastly, a manual distraction is driving without placing your hands on the steering wheel. For instance, you could be engaging in different activities such as eating, chatting on the phone, eyeing the floor, or reaching down to get money out of your purse or wallet. All these distractions during operating a vehicle could impact your life.

If a distracted driver has injured you or a loved one, then you may want to consider hiring an experienced attorney. An attorney will provide you with the legal assistance to fight for your case and give you the justice you deserve.
