2 Kentuckians killed in horrific truck accident

As a general rule, accidents involving tractor-trailers are about as bad as it gets. The overwhelming size and power of such vehicles can turn them into awesomely destructive weapons. Add alcohol, fatigue or negligence to the mix and you've got a recipe for disaster on your hands.

A rather terrible truck accident happened in a neighboring state, Tennessee, on June 25. While the details are still sketchy, reports indicate that four people died, including two from Kentucky, in a crash that involved two semi trucks and, at minimum, two cars. It is not yet known how the accident happened or whether anyone involved was driving recklessly, while distracted or under the influence. Individuals who saw the accident scene were shocked by the carnage. According to one woman, the vehicles she saw at the scene were basically damaged beyond recognition.

Horrific scenes like these are a reminder to be extra careful when driving in the vicinity of tractor-trailers. You can't know the driver's mental state or predict his or her level of expertise in handling a vehicle of that size. Even beyond questions of the truck driver's conduct, a mechanical defect could cause the truck to lose control, leaving the driver with no command of the vehicle.

Trucking companies have an obligation to maintain their trucks according to the appropriate standards and their drivers should be well trained. However, this aspiration isn't always lived up to. If you've been involved in a truck accident in Kentucky, speaking to an attorney is something you may want to consider. He or she may be able to help you get compensation for medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering.
