Kentucky car accident takes the life of young girl

A Lexington, Kentucky family is currently struggling to come to terms with the worst set of circumstances that any parent can imagine. They have lost their 12-year-old daughter, in a manner that could neither have been predicted nor prevented. In the aftermath of the horrific car accident that took her life, it is hoped that her family is surrounded by friends and loved ones to help weather the days ahead.

Police believe that the sixth grader was walking along Eastland Parkway around 4:20 p.m. on a recent Wednesday afternoon when a car approached. The vehicle was a silver Impala, driven by a female whose name has not yet been released to the public. The driver told police that the sun was in her eyes at the time of the crash, and that she did not see the girl on the side of the roadway as she attempted to turn onto an adjacent road.

The crash forced the girl up against a tree, where she was pinned for an unspecified period of time. Emergency responders rushed the child to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, but she was unable to survive her injuries. The cause of her death was listed as multiple blunt force trauma injuries.

Her funeral has been scheduled, and the outpouring of support from friends, family and the local community may help her close family get through the weeks ahead. As the investigation continues, Kentucky criminal charges could be filed against the driver responsible for the car accident. However, the family retains the right to move forward with a wrongful death suit, should they decide to do so.
